The NC-22 is among the most reliable semi-automatic AR-22 rimfire rifles available. In terms of feel and weight, it is almost identical to a traditional AR-15 chambered in .223 Remington. Furthermore, it shares the same controls as a standard AR-15 rifle (with the exception of the Last Round Bolt Hold Open feature). For these reasons, the rifle is exceptionally suited for training and Mini Rifle competitions.

The NC-22 is compatible with most AR-15 components and accessories, with a few exceptions (it uses its own NC-22 charging handle). When using alternative trigger mechanisms, light-resetting triggers with a direct hammer are recommended (good options include Timney DH3, and ATC AR Gold 308).
