The terminology and features of Safariland models (they can be somewhat challenging at times!):
If the last digit of the product code: 1 = Right-handed
If the last digit of the product code: 2 = Left-handed
ALS = Automatic Locking System: A thumb-release lever located on the holster’s body side. Press down to release.
SLS = Self Locking System: Protective strap + additional protection mechanism that requires the lever to be pushed forward before unlocking.
When secured in SLS mode, some models feature a hood guard for added protection of optics.
Safariland holsters operate at various retention levels or holding capabilities. There are four tiers:
| LEVEL I RETENTION™; | Moderate Retention |
| LEVEL II RETENTION™; | Good Retention |
| LEVEL III RETENTION™; | Enhanced Retention |
| LEVEL IV RETENTION™; | Optimal Retention |
